Stanley W. Harris

Funeral services for Stanley W. “Stan” Harris, 84, of Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1245 N.H. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Harris died Thursday, April 15, 2010, at his home.
He was born Oct. 10, 1925, in Lawrence, the son of Fred H. and Edith Swisher Harris. He graduated from Liberty Memorial High School and received a bachelor of science degree from the University of Utah in 1969.
He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was an engineer manager at Hercules, retiring in 1985. He was instrumental in helping to establish Eagle Bend Golf Course.
Mr. Harris was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, a past president of the church council and director of Decade of Progress. He also belonged to the American Legion Dorsey-Liberty Post 14, the Mount Oread Aerie 309 of Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Jaycees.
He married Shirley Mae Acher on Nov. 20, 1945, in Lawrence. She preceded him in death Aug. 30, 2004.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Lt. Russell L. Harris, who died Feb. 11, 1969, in Vietnam.
Survivors include a daughter, Cheryl A. Merrill, Lawrence; two sons, Bryan D., Lawrence, and Stanley W. Jr., Dallas; six grandchildren, Russell, Tom, Kevin and Melinda Harris and Robert and Bryan Merrill; and five great-grandchildren, Joey Lynn Yeager and Hunter, Rylee, Collin and Lyam Harris.
The family will greet friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
