Ralph S. Chance 1918 - 2010 Lawrence
Memorial services for Ralph S. Chance, 91, Lawrence, will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Cremation is planned.
Mr. Chance died Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at The Windsor of Lawrence.
He was born Aug. 14, 1918, in Kotzebue, Alaska, the son of Sylvester and Rachel M. Pickering Chance.
He graduated from high school in Wichita, and later earned a degree from Friends University. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and attained the rank of staff sergeant.
Mr. Chance was a special investigator with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. He moved to Lawrence in 1990, and was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
He married Maxine H. Hart on Oct. 25, 1940, in Blackwell, Okla. She died April 12, 2009.
Survivors include two sons, Larry S. and wife Kathy King, Lawrence, and Gary S. and wife Mona, Frankston, Texas; a daughter, Barbara A. Inman and husband Roy, Lenexa; seven grandchildren, Heather, Michelle, Sara, Robbie, Matt, Nick and Daniel; and eight great-grandchildren, Albany, Ava, Jacob, Ethan, Greta, Owen, Abbey and Emerson.
The family suggests memorials to the American Heart Association, sent in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home and Crematory, 601 Ind., Lawrence, KS 66044.
