Vincent Royce Eckman

Graveside services for Vincent Royce Eckman, 63, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Vinland Cemetery.
Mr. Eckman died Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at his home.
He was born Sept. 17, 1946, in Lawrence, the son of Edward and Helen Zink Eckman. He grew up on the family farm in the Vinland area, and graduated from Lawrence High School in 1964.
Mr. Eckman began working at Hallmark Cards Inc. in 1966 and retired in 2001 after 35 years of service. In retirement, he enjoyed gardening. He spoiled his dog and best buddy, Sarah. He also enjoyed repairing cars and spending time with his Tuesday morning buddies at Jet Lag Lounge.
He was a member of Heart of America Van Council and enjoyed attending many local and national Van Inn events during the past 35 years. He helped host some of these events.
Survivors include two sons, Phillip, Ottawa, and Bryan and wife Jenica, Las Vegas; two brothers, Steven and wife Nancy, Baldwin City, and Jack Schafer and wife Tracy, Lawrence; a sister, Merna Dean, Lawrence; a sister-in-law, Linda Eckman, Lawrence; three grandchildren, Jordan Eckman, Phillip Eckman II and Danielle Blanchard; three great-grandchildren, Dakota and Christian Williams and James McNeil; a nephew, Cole; and several other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Richard; and brother-in-law, Andy.
Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, where the family will meet them from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.
The family suggests memorials to the American Diabetes Association, the Lawrence Humane Society or the Vinland Cemetery Association, sent in care of the funeral home, 601 Ind., Lawrence, KS 66044.
