Bernard L. Hausherr Sr.

A memorial Mass for Bernard L. Hausherr Sr., 97, will be at 11 a.m. April 9 at St. Lawrence Catholic Center, with Monsignor Vince Krische officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to a luncheon following the burial.
Mr. Hausherr died Saturday, March 27, 2010, in Evergreen, Colo.
He was born in Slater, Mo., the son of Joseph Francis and Julia Ann Haley Hausherr. He graduated from Greybull High School in Greybull, Wyo., and attended the University of Wyoming in Laramie.
During World War II, Mr. Hausherr joined in the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific theater. He participated in the Battle of Iwo Jima, and earned a Bronze Star.
After World War II, he received a bachelor’s degree in business from Kansas University and a law degree from KU Law School.
Mr. Hausherr was an attorney for the state of Kansas.
He was a longtime member of the Kansas Bar Association, the KU Alumni Association and Knights of Columbus Council 1134 of Alexander, La. He also was a member of American Legion Dorsey-Liberty Post 14, Lakeview Fishing and Shooting Association, St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and Friends of the KU Library. He was active with Boy Scout Troop 61, serving on the board and as scoutmaster.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rubylee Biggs Hausherr; his parents; and a brother, Joe H.
Survivors include a son, Bernard L. Jr., Georgetown, Colo.; a daughter, Julia Hausherr Caruth and husband Paul, Durham, N.C.; three grandchildren, Joe Caruth, Durham, N.C., and fiancee Katie Kennedy, Raleigh, N.C., Yvette Caruth Nebeling, Durham, N.C., and Nick Caruth, Winston-Salem, N.C.; and a great-grandchild, Juliette Nebeling.
The family will meet friends and a rosary will be at 7 p.m. today at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
