Bobby Gene Collins Sr. 1936 - 2010 Mountain View, Mo.
Funeral services for Bobby Gene Collins Sr., 74, Mountain View, Mo., will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the New Life Assembly of God Church in Baldwin City. Burial will be held in the Oakwood Cemetery.
Mr. Collins died Friday, April 2, 2010, at the VA Hospital in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
He was born March 7, 1936, in Nevada, Mo., the son of Zola Smith and Clyde Oscar Collins. He grew up in Vinland and attended Vinland schools.
Mr. Collins and his wife resided the last 10 years in Mountain View, Mo., and previously lived in Baldwin City.
Mr. Collins enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1955 and was honorably discharged in 1963. He was assigned to the Strategic Air Command as a B-47 jet engine mechanic.
Mr. Collins enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He was a member of the NRA and attended the Assembly of God Church.
He married Shirley Mae Colburn on Aug. 27, 1960, in Mountain Home, Ark. They shared 49 years of marriage. She survives, of the home.
Other survivors include two daughters, Mary Ann Boyd and husband Jon, Lawrence, and Esther Marie Franks, Baldwin City; four sons, Bobby Gene Jr. and wife Sandy, Baldwin City, Virgil Lee, Rantoul, David Olen and wife Crystal, Lawrence, and Kirk Allen and wife Shannon, Baldwin City; three sisters, Joy Stafford and husband Harley, Walla Walla, Wash., Sue Vonbargen and husband Marvin, Baldwin City, and Dorothy Springs and husband Norman, Williamsburg; a brother, Bill and wife Carol, Centropolis; 18 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, James, and three sisters, Frances Barkley, Mildred Shomer and Betty Randall.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home in Baldwin City.
