Vivian Maxine Cox 1915 - 2009 Lawrence
Funeral services for Vivian Maxine “Grandma Honey” Cox, 93, Lawrence, will be from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at the White Chapel Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home in Gladstone, Mo.
Mrs. Cox died Friday, Sept. 25, 2009, after a long battle with pneumonia.
She was born Dec. 6, 1915, in Blue Ridge, Mo., the daughter of Simeon and Emma Mae Hill Gutshall. She graduated from Gilman City High School in 1933.
Mrs. Cox spent most of her life in Missouri, with a few early married years in California. She lived in Lawrence for the last 13 years with her daughter, Mayris, and son-in-law, Ed Reed.
She was a lifelong member of the Vivian Road Church of Christ in Kansas City, Mo.
She married Michael Buford Cox on Oct. 12, 1935, in Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on their 40th wedding anniversary, Oct. 12, 1975.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Garvin Gutshall and Avis Gutshall, and a sister, Lila Lee Filger.
Survivors include a brother, Beryl Gutshall, Riverside, Mo.; two sons, Allen Daniel Cox and wife Patricia Vaughan Cox, Rayville, Mo., and Mikel Weilyn Cox and wife Judy Vaughan Cox, Orrick, Mo.; a daughter, Mayris Lue Reed and husband Ed, Lawrence; 10 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at the funeral home, 6600 NE Antioch Road, Kansas City, Mo.
