Gertrude I. Senter

Ottawa — Funeral services for Gertrude I. Senter, 102, Wichita, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Ottawa, with the Revs. Bill Shook, Joel Frederickson and Vera Goodman officiating. Private family burial will be prior to the service, at Highland Cemetery.
Mrs. Senter died Friday, Sept. 25, 2009, at Homestead Health Center in Wichita.
She was born May 27, 1907, in Ottawa, the daughter of Adeline M. (Bird) and Lafayette C. Jones. She graduated from Ottawa High School in 1925 and attended Ottawa University.
She moved to Prairie Homestead, in Wichita, on Feb. 4, 2001.
Mrs. Senter was a bookkeeper at Quin Furniture and later was the secretary at the First Baptist Church in Ottawa.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Ottawa for more than 70 years. She was a life member of Ottawa University Women’s Association and the Ottawa Soroptomist Club, and a member of Friends of the Library, the Ransom Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and the Oasis Club, all in Ottawa.
She married Carl H. Senter on Aug. 17, 1931, and they had more than 68 years together. He preceded her in death in March 1999.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Mabel Weinheimer; and two brothers, Richard Jones and Lowell Jones.
Survivors include her son, Charles Senter and wife Betsy, of Fort Worth, Texas; two daughters, Carolyn Shook and husband Bill, of Wichita, and Martha Gage and husband Ralph, of Lawrence; a sister, Jean E. Jones, of Topeka; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
The family will meet friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home in Ottawa.
