Roger V. Lynch 1928 - 2009 Lawrence

Baldwin City — Memorial services for Roger V. Lynch, 81, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Baldwin City. Inurnment will be at a later date in Fort Smith, Ark.
Mr. Lynch died Sunday, Sept. 20, 2009, at his home.
He was born Jan. 22, 1928, in Fort Smith, Ark., the son of Roger W. and Jane Taylor Lynch.
He attended the University of Arkansas, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He served in the U.S. Navy and accepted a commission as assistant communications officer aboard the U.S.S. Latimer from 1953 to 1954 during the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Lynch also attended Pittsburg State University and Kansas University.
He was employed by Baker University in 1965 as a professor in the math department, retiring in 1992. He also worked for the computer science department prior to retirement. He had also taught mathematics at American River Junior College in Sacramento, Calif., Northeastern State Junior College in Miami, Okla., and in the Independence, Kan., public schools.
He married Juanita “Nita” Hix on Aug. 26, 1949, in Fayetteville, Ark. She survives, of the home.
Other survivors include two sons, John, Lawrence, and Steven, Kansas City; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.
He was preceded in death by a son, Christopher, in 2002.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Baker University Scholarship Fund or the Parkinson’s Foundation of the Heartland, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
