William Lawrence Mitchell, Sr.

Funeral services for William Lawrence “Larry” Mitchell, Sr., 87, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Olathe.
Mr. Mitchell died Sunday, Aug. 30, 2009, at Brandon Woods at Alvamar.
He was born Oct. 25, 1921, in Ashland, Ky., the son of Charles and Lena Sparks Mitchell. He graduated from Ashland High School.
He worked for Charles Bruning Co. He also worked at API Blue Print Co. from 1964 until 1975. Later he owned C&E Art and Engineering Service before retiring in 1988.
Mr. Mitchell was a deacon of the Southern Baptist Church. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Lenexa. He was an avid football and sports fan.
He married Zelma Katherine Skirvin Ross on Oct. 4, 1941, in Ashland, Ky. She preceded him in death Sept. 30, 1998.
Survivors include a daughter, Margaret Rose Mitchell, Sanford, N.C.; two sons, Charles Floyd and wife Sharlene, Atlanta, and William “Bill” Lawrence Jr. and wife Ruth A. Shadel, Lawrence; a brother, Charles Mitchell, Villa Hills, Ky.; a sister, Patricia Kern and husband Richard, Homosassa, Fla.; four grandchildren, Andrew, Kathy, Alyssa and Angela; and five great-grandchildren.
