Funeral services for Curtis Wayne Coffman, 42, Baldwin City, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Community Covenant Church, 15700 W. 87th St. Parkway, Lenexa. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Worden.
Mr. Coffman died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, at Kansas University Hospital after an automobile accident on Oct. 11.
He was born Oct. 17, 1967, in Oklahoma City, the son of Wayne Edward and Janel Hyacinth Niebrugge Coffman. He lived in Del City, Okla., until kindergarten, when his family moved to Baldwin City. He was senior class president at Baldwin High School and graduated in 1986.
Mr. Coffman received a bachelor’s degree in historic preservation from Kansas University in 1991, a certificate in AutoCAD from Johnson County Community College in 1998 and a master’s degree in history, arts and social sciences from Baker University in 2006.
He worked as a drafter at Water District No. 1 of Johnson County. He graduated from the district’s Leadership Academy.
Mr. Coffman served as president of the Baldwin High School Alumni Association. He was a member of the Belleek International Collectors Society, the Richard Degenhardt Chapter. He enjoyed history and was a member of the Colonial Williamsburg Association.
He was a member of the Baker University Alumni Board, of which he was vice president of membership; the Masters Swim Club in Lawrence; the preservation society of St. John’s Reformed Church in Philadelphia; and a former member of the Historic Preservation Alliance of Douglas County. He also kept genealogy records for his family.
Survivors include his parents, of Baldwin City; his twin brother, Jay Edward, Baldwin City; and a sister, Melanie Hyacinth Coffman, Shawnee.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Richard and Virginia Coffman; maternal grandparents, Karl and Hyacinth Niebrugge; and his second grandmother, Hazel Niebrugge.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, 712 Ninth St., Baldwin City.
