Donald Dewey Hackler

Funeral services for Donald Dewey Hackler, 78, Baldwin City, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Wilson’s Funeral Home, 607 Main St., Wellsville. Burial will follow in Wellsville Cemetery.
Mr. Hackler died Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009, in Baldwin City.
He was born Nov. 1, 1930, in Gardner, the son of Dewey Albert and Clara Elizabeth Leeker Hackler. He grew up in the Baldwin City area and graduated from Baldwin High School in 1949.
Mr. Hackler joined the U.S. Army in October 1950, serving as an active military police officer in the Ready Reserve. He was honorably discharged in 1961.
He worked for Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant for several years and for General Motors as a millwright at the Fairfax plant in Kansas City, Kan., where he retired in 1992.
Mr. Hackler was a member of the United Auto Workers Local 31. He enjoyed using tools, working on cars and fishing.
He married Sue Mitchell on April 10, 1959. They shared 50 years of marriage. She survives, of the couple’s home in Mission, Texas, where they had spent the last 17 years retired part time and living full time the last four years.
Other survivors include two daughters, Patty Flory Evans and husband Robin, Baldwin City, and Annette “Leah” Hackler, Ann Arbor, Mich.; a sister, Mona Ortolf, Olathe; four grandchildren, Clint, J.D., Kyle and Rusty Flory; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
