Beverly Jo Holden

Memorial services for Beverly Jo “Betty” Holden, 87, Lawrence, will be at 3 p.m. Monday at the Lawrence Funeral Chapel. Cremation is planned. Graveside inurnment services will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Restlawn Cemetery in Coffeyville.
Mrs. Holden died Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009, at Harbor House Memory Care Residence after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.
She was born April 23, 1922, in Kirksville, Mo., the daughter of Edwin Ora and Frances Angle Morrison Squire.
Mrs. Holden was raised in Coffeyville and earned a bookkeeping degree from Coffeyville Junior College. She was a bookkeeper with Cities Service Oil Company in Bartlesville and Tulsa, Okla., from 1962 to her retirement in 1992. Mrs. Holden also worked for Hahn Real Estate in Coffeyville for nearly 50 years. She was a concert violinist for many years and also played viola. She was a longtime member of Bartlesville Symphony Orchestra, and played with the Oral Roberts University Orchestra in Tulsa and Shreveport Symphony in Shreveport, La. She was also involved in community theater, Civitan Club, Boys Club, Cities Service Retirees, Ultralight Flying Club and Bartlesville Methodist Church. Mrs. Holden enjoyed flying her ultralight aircraft, after taking flying lessons at the age of 70.
She married Jake Tolar. He preceded her in death. She later married Kenneth Holden. He also preceded her in death.
She was also preceded in death by a sister, Carol Squire Thimesch, Des Moines, Iowa.
Survivors include two sons, Terry Tolar, Lawrence, and Michael Tolar, Denver; a daughter, Jude Tolar, Stillwater, Okla.; a brother, Robert Squire, Alexandria, Va.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family suggests memorials to the Bartlesville Symphony Orchestra, sent in care of the funeral home, 3821 W. Sixth St., Lawrence, KS 66049.
