Darrell D. Davidson

Funeral services for Darrell D. Davidson, 78, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will follow.
Mr. Davidson died Monday, Oct. 19, 2009, at Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center in Topeka.
He was born Sept. 6, 1931, in Arkansas City, the son of Carl J. and Ruth Loraine Turner Davidson. He graduated from Arkansas City High School in 1949.
He served in the National Guard for two years before attending Arkansas City Junior College in 1949-50. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950-54 as an aircraft mechanic, and later attended Kansas University, where he graduated with a bachelor of science in business in 1959.
Mr. Davidson worked at Beech Aircraft in Wichita from 1959-63 as a technical writer. He then began his career as a customer service and publicity manager with West Plains Energy/Utilicorp and its predecessors in 1963, and retired in 1993 after 30 years of service.
He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Eudora, the Kansas University Alumni Association, and American Legion Dorsey-Liberty Post 14, and a former longtime member of First Christian Church of Great Bend.
He married Verna Eileen Eagan. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include a son, Joel K. Davidson and wife Karen, Andover; a daughter, Deanna Ross and husband Steve, Eudora; a brother, Mike Davidson and wife Debbie, Arkansas City; two sisters, Sandra Green, Las Vegas, and Catherine Blendon, Arkansas City; eight grandchildren, Emily and Joseph Davidson, Jennifer Stedry, Jesse Burke, Mallory, Alexandra, and Zachary Ross, and Rachel Patrum; and six great-grandchildren, Garrett Stephenson, Caden Stedry, Evan Burke, Cabriah and Emmanuel Ross, and Alassa Gevanni.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert Carl Davidson.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, where the family will receive them from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association, sent in care of the funeral home, 601 Ind., Lawrence, KS 66044.
