Thelma L. Farris

Winchester — Funeral services for Thelma L. Farris, 91, Winchester, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Winchester United Methodist Church. Burial will be at McLouth Cemetery.
She died Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009, at Stormont-Vail Hospital.
She was born Sept. 2, 1918, in McLouth, the daughter of Matthew and Devena Seybold Woodhead. She graduated from McLouth High School in 1936.
She was a homemaker and assisted her husband as a clerk for their auction company for 50 years. She also served as the Winchester news correspondent for the Oskaloosa Independent and Atchison Globe newspapers for many years.
She was a member of Winchester United Methodist Church, serving as piano player for many years, and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was a member of Plum Grove Grange, County Line Extension Unit and Senior Citizens, all of Winchester.
She married Eldon E. “Dick” Farris on Nov. 27, 1938, in McLouth. He died July 17, 1992.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Bonnie Jean Farris, in 1949.
Survivors include three sons, Thomas Eugene Farris, McLouth, Ronald Grant Farris, Winchester, and Lonnie Dean Farris, Meriden; two brothers, Marcus Woodhead, McLouth, and Marlin Woodhead, De Soto; three sisters, Helen Bates, Rose Hill, Myrtice Fuqua, Hesston, and Anabel Knapp, Easton; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call after noon Monday at Barnett-Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Oskaloosa, where the family will meet them from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
