Lester L. Hodson

A memorial service for Lester L. Hodson, 87, Oskaloosa, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home in Lawrence. Inurnment will follow at Reno Cemetery in Reno.
Mr. Hodson died Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009, at Hickory Pointe Care Center in Oskaloosa.
He was born Sept. 5, 1922, in Lawrence, the son of Ormal Jimmy and Caroline Helen Cummings Hodson.
He was raised by his parents on a Kansas farm. He farmed most of his life and also worked for the Kansas Turnpike to take care of his family. He later moved to Pearidge, Ark., and became a part of the Bella Vista Fire Department for about 20 years.
He married Roberta Earlene Kelley; they later divorced. He married Berdie L. Hodson on June 10, 1967. She preceded him in death.
He was also preceded in death by his sister, Margeret Hodson, and two brothers, Warren Ormal Hodson and Lloyd Hodson; a son, Melvin R. Hodson; a grandson, Jackie R. Whitaker Jr.; and a great-grandson, Charles David Collins.
Survivors include children from his first marriage, son Robert L. Hodson and wife Linda, of Lawrence, and daughter Caroline M. Hodson Crain, of Perry; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association, sent in care of the funeral home, 601 Ind., Lawrence, KS 66044.
