Robert R. Sexton 1924 - 2009 Lawrence
Funeral services for Robert R. “Bob” Sexton, 85, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Sexton died Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
He was born July 2, 1924, in Dunlap, the son of Herman and Freda Sheaffer Sexton. He graduated from Dunlap High School in 1942, and worked at Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant during World War II.
Mr. Sexton began his career as an electrician in Lawrence in 1949. He worked for several electrical companies prior to becoming business agent for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local No. 226 in 1958. He was promoted to international labor representative in 1969. After that, he became co-founder and president of the Electrical Corporation of America in 1971, from which he retired in 1986. He was a 60-year member of the IBEW, a 58-year member of Lawrence Lodge No. 6 AF & AM, the local Abdallah Shrine Temple, and the Eagles Lodge No. 309.
He married Margaret Jane Moorman on July 5, 1945, in Lawrence. She survives, of the home.
Other survivors include a son, Terry S. Sexton and wife Kathy, Lawrence; a daughter, Connie S. Vogt and husband Terry, Knoxville, Tenn.; a sister, Beth Dage and husband Jack, Las Cruces, N.M.; two grandchildren, Christine Smits and Brian Vogt; and four great-grandsons, Duncan, Blake and Cooper Smits, and Phoenix Vogt.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, where the family will receive them from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The family suggests memorials to Douglas County Visiting Nurses, Rehabilitation and Hospice Care, sent in care of the funeral home.
