Deborah Christine Prentice 1961 - 2009 Lawrence
Funeral services for Deborah Christine Prentice, 48, Lawrence, will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at North Lawrence Christian Church. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family suggests that pink be worn in honor of her fight against breast cancer.
Mrs. Prentice died Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2009, at VNA Hospice Care Cottage.
She was born June 15, 1961, in Lawrence, the daughter of Hubert and Mary Constance “Connie” Lipp Pritchett.
Mrs. Prentice graduated from Lawrence High School in 1979. She worked at Douglas County Visiting Nurses, Rehabilitation and Hospice Care for more than 20 years.
She was a member of North Lawrence Christian Church and Harmony Circle Ladies Group. She was also a Sunday school teacher. She was a member of the Bosom Buddies support group. She was an avid fan of the Kansas University football team and the men’s and women’s basketball teams. She also loved cats.
She married James “Jim” Prentice on Feb. 16, 1991, in Lawrence. He died in December 1995.
Survivors include her parents, of Lawrence; a sister, Sheree Bower and husband Tom, Fort Worth, Texas; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, James and Phyllis Prentice, Lawrence; two nieces, Krista and Amber; a nephew, Joshua Bower; and two sisters-in-law, Shelia Rygmyr and Lori Anderson.
The family will meet friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
The family suggest memorials to Douglas County Visiting Nurses, Rehabilitation and Hospice Care or Lawrence Memorial Hospital’s Oncology Unit or North Lawrence Christian Church, sent in care of the mortuary.
