James F. Guthrie

A celebration of life for James F. “Jim” Guthrie, 64, Lawrence, will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Lawrence Funeral Chapel.
Mr. Guthrie died Thursday, Oct. 8, 2009, at Kansas University Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan.
He was born Feb. 24, 1945, the son of Irvin Jagar and Ida May Newton Guthrie.
Mr. Guthrie graduated from Sarasota High School and received an associate’s degree in civil engineering and manufacturing and engineering. He also received a bachelor’s degree from the University of South Florida. He worked as a quality supply engineer for Honeywell International for 19 years.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1969, receiving two Purple Hearts for his service during Vietnam. He was a member of the University of South Florida Alumni Association.
Mr. Guthrie married Linda G. George on Oct. 4, 1969, in Greensboro, N.C. She survives, of the home.
Other survivors include a daughter, Merritt K. Guthrie, Lawrence, and a cousin, Sid Evans, Sarasota, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society, sent in care of the funeral home, 3821 W. Sixth St., Lawrence, KS 66049.
