Martha W. Longanecker 1931 - 2009 Lawrence
A private family graveside service for Martha W. Longanecker, 77, Lawrence, will be today at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Longanecker died Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
She was born Dec. 14, 1931, in Lawrence, the daughter of Elmer B. and Nellie McLean Wise.
She graduated from Liberty Memorial High School in 1949. She later attended Kansas University.
Mrs. Longanecker worked at Weaver’s Department Store and Hercules Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant. She later worked at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Longanecker was also a homemaker.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the National Association of Letter Carriers Auxiliary No. 177, Lawrence. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Retired Letter Carriers Branch 1A Auxiliary Nalcrest, Fla., and the Nalcrest Residents Association.
She married Wilbur M. Longanecker on Sept. 11, 1954, at the First United Methodist Church in Lawrence. He survives, of the home.
Other survivors include a daughter, Debra Renick and husband Bill, Lawrence; a son, Daryl, Lawrence; a brother, John Wise, Linwood; and four grandchildren, Gina Currier, Kristen and Megan Longanecker, and Allyson Renick.
A memorial gathering for family and friends will be at 5 p.m. today at Debra and Bill’s home at 4208 Trail Road, Lawrence.
The family suggests memorials to Douglas County Visiting Nurses Rehabilitation and Hospice Care, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
