Robert Tilley 1922 - 2009 De Pere, Wis.
De Pere, Wis. — A celebration of life for Robert “Bob” Tilley, 87, De Pere, was Sept. 26 at Ryan Funeral Home in De Pere.
Mr. Tilley died Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009, at a hospice facility in De Pere, after a long battle with cancer.
He was born March 8, 1922, in Beloit, Wis., the son of Nate and Cora Stordock Tilley.
Mr. Tilley graduated from Rutgers University. He was a pilot and flight instructor for the U.S. Air Force during World War II. After military service, Mr. Tilley was a banker in Beloit and was known as “Mr. Beloit” for his philanthropic endeavors in and around Beloit.
He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2113 in De Pere, a former Rotarian and a 50-year Mason. He was also a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in De Pere.
He married Mary Lou Quinn in 1949. She preceded him in death.
He later married Leigh Schiffer on May 8, 1978. She survives, of the home.
Other survivors include a son, Gary, Lawrence, Kan.; a daughter, Connie Tilley, De Pere; three grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
