Ruth Marie Hurst 1959 - 2009 Lawrence

Ruth Marie Hurst

A celebration of life service for Ruth Marie Hurst, 50, Lawrence, will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at Maceli’s, 1031 N.H.
Mrs. Hurst died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009, at her home from ovarian cancer.
She was born July 8, 1959, in Pratt, the daughter of Robert F. and Edith Beyer Todd.
She graduated from Garden City High School in 1977. She moved to Lawrence in 1978.
Mrs. Hurst received a bachelor’s degree in general studies and a master’s degree in religious studies from Kansas University. She had also completed the necessary coursework for a doctorate.
She worked at the KU library and other positions at the university. She later worked at DST Systems as a mutual fund representative from 2004 until 2007. She was a member of the Friends of the Department of Religious Studies.
She married Charles Ray Hurst on June 2, 1979, in Lawrence.
Other survivors include a son, Jerad and wife Kimberly, Lawrence; two daughters, Julia Ensign and husband Jacob, Olathe, and Jillian Hurst, Lawrence; a stepmother, Charlene Todd, Granola; two sisters, Sondra Todd, El Dorado, and Evelyn Todd, Wichita; and a granddaughter, Nicole Hurst.
She was preceded in death by her mother in August 1981 and her father in July 2008.
The family suggests memorials to the Lawrence Humane Society, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
