Ruth O. Bledsoe

Funeral services for Ruth O. Bledsoe, 89, Winchester, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Countryside Baptist Church, rural McLouth. Burial will be at Pleasant View Cemetery, Oskaloosa.
She died Thursday, Nov. 26, 2009, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
She was born Sept. 2, 1920, in Monticello, Minn., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Oscar Whitmer. Her mother died in 1923 and she was raised by her father and stepmother, Fairy Whitmer. She graduated from Monticello High School in 1939.
She had lived in Winchester since 1983, moving from Lawrence. She worked as a cafeteria cook at Central Junior School in Lawrence from 1966 until 1979 when she was medically retired. She attended the Countryside Baptist Church in McLouth and also attended the Church of the Brethren in Topeka.
She married Roy Lloyd Bledsoe on Aug. 18, 1945, in Chicago. He died June 18, 1987.
She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Jeannette Marie Bledsoe and Diane Acton.
Survivors include two sons, Edward Bledsoe, Olathe, and Paul Bledsoe, Overland Park; a brother, Amos Whitmer, California; and two grandchildren.
Friends may call after 10 a.m. Monday at Barnett-Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Oskaloosa, where the family will meet friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday.
