Larry Ray Powers 1949 - 2009 Lawrence
A memorial service for Larry Ray Powers, 60, Lawrence, will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Clinton Parkway Assembly of God.
Mr. Powers died Monday, Nov. 23, 2009, at his home.
He was born May 12, 1949, in Childress, Texas, the son of Roy Franklin and Helen May Blackwood Powers. He was a former resident of Eudora for 17 years. He moved to Lawrence in 2003.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.
Mr. Powers was a computer specialist for Microtech Computers. He also worked for Penny’s Concrete in Lenexa for 17 years. He volunteered for the Family Promise of Lawrence. He was a member of Clinton Parkway Assembly of God church.
He married Shari Powers; they later divorced. He married Melody Clevenger on Oct. 11, 2003, in Lawrence. She survives, of the home.
Other survivors include his mother of Kansas City, Kan.; two daughters, Taran Pritchard, Lawrence, and Lindy and husband James Springer, Eudora; two stepdaughters, Mindy Smith, Kansas City, Kan., and Paula Smith, Lawrence; two sons, John Powers and Luke Powers, both of Lawrence; one stepson, Joshua Smith, Lawrence; two brothers, Roy, Spring Hill, and Bruce, Kansas City, Kan.; two sisters, Gloria Gerik, Lufkin, Texas, and Sheri Cogan, Weston, Mo.; and six grandchildren, Bethany, Kyra, Christopher, Skylar, Olivia and Madison.
He was preceded in death by his father and two sisters, Sonja Freeman and Tanya Powers.
The family suggests memorials to Clinton Parkway Assembly of God or Family Promise, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th St., Lawrence, KS 66044.
