Ross E. Wulfkuhle 1915 - 2009 Lawrence
A memorial service for Ross E. Wulfkuhle, 94, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at First Christian Church. Private inurnment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery at a later date.
Mr. Wulfkuhle died Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009, at Pioneer Ridge Retirement Community.
He was born Aug. 27, 1915, in Stull, the son of William F. and Mildred Gress Wulfkuhle. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Aleutian Islands and India.
He was a farmer and stockman. He also worked for 34 years in the audiovisual department at Kansas University, retiring in 1979.
Mr. Wulfkuhle was a member of First Christian Church, where he formerly served as a deacon. He was a past commander of American Legion Dorsey-Liberty Post 14. He was a member of the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce and served as a chairman of the agriculture committee. For many years, he was a community leader of the Kanwaka 4-H Club, a member of the Douglas County Fair Board and helped organize the livestock auction at the Douglas County Fair. He was a member of the Douglas County Retired Teachers Association.
He married Margaret Colman on March 7, 1943, in Lawrence. She survives, of the home.
Other survivors include two daughters, Linda and husband Guido Cecchini, Eau Claire, Wis., and Virginia Wulfkuhle, Topeka; and a brother, George, Albuquerque, N.M.
The family will meet friends from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sunday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
