Len E. Bogart Jr.

Funeral services for Len E. “John” Bogart Jr., 82, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Prairie Mound Cemetery in Solomon.
Mr. Bogart died Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, at Pioneer Ridge Retirement Community.
He was born April 11, 1927, in Abilene, the son of Len Everett and Emma M. Brickei Bogart.
Mr. Bogart attended Abilene schools and graduated from Abilene High School in 1945. He later attended Kansas University. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He spent 11 years with the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Co. in Abilene, Holton and Lawrence. For four years, he was branch manager for Western and Southern Life Insurance Co. in Hutchinson. He spent 30 years with the Stanley Works of New Britain, Ct., as a manufacturer’s representative in the education department.
Mr. Bogart was a life member of the Holton Masonic Lodge and a member of American Legion Dorsey-Liberty Post 14 in Lawrence. He was an active member of Bethany Park Christian Church, where he served in many offices, including chairman of the board. In his retirement, he enjoyed volunteering at the Lawrence Senior Center and ushering at the Lied Center.
He married Edith Grace Godfrey on Dec. 7, 1947, at First Christian Church in Abilene. She survives, of the home.
Other survivors include two sons, Michael L. and wife Susan, Tonganoxie, and Jon “Jay” and wife Martha, Spring Hill; three grandchildren, Justin, Joel and Kathrine; and three great-grandchildren.
The family will meet friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. The family will also meet friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home in Abilene.
The family suggests memorials to the Salvation Army or Immanuel Lutheran Church’s Building Fund, sent in care of the mortuary, 120 W. 13th St., Lawrence, KS 66044.
