Steven L. May 1950 - 2009 Hiawatha
Funeral services for Steven L. May, 59, of Hiawatha, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha. Pastor Jerry Petering, of Highland, will officiate. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery.
Mr. May died unexpectedly on Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, at his home.
He was born on March 13, 1950, in Lawrence, one of five children of Vernon and Ann Williams May. He grew up and attended school in the Lawrence and Baldwin City area, and graduated from Baldwin City High School.
In 1987, he established May Electric, specializing in residential/business electrical needs in the Hiawatha area. In recent years, he worked part-time for Davies Oil Company in Hiawatha.
Mr. May was a musician, and had played in the Wolf River Railroad Gang, and later, when living in Colorado, with the Big Sugar Band.
He married Erika Coleman in 1968. They later divorced. He married Leanda Windmeyer on May 15, 1987. She survives, of the home.
Other survivors include a son, Dustin and wife Georgia, of White Cloud; a daughter, Stephanie May and Nathan Bryant, of Lawrence; his parents, Vernon and Ann May, of Hamlin; two brothers, Gene, of Humboldt, Neb., and George, of Scranton; two sisters, Phyllis Dickerson, of Ottawa, and Judy Binder, of Maple Grove, Minn.; and five grandchildren, Seth, Troy, Dillon, Hannah and Corbin.
Friends may call after 10 a.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will meet them from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
