Bowen Ray Pope

Memorial services for Bowen Ray Pope, 30, Columbia, Md., will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Lawrence. Burial has taken place in Columbia Memorial Park, Columbia.
Mr. Pope died Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009, from complications of cancer.
He was born May 2, 1979, in Lawrence, the son of Larry Michael and Diane Louise Pope and younger brother of Nathan Michael Pope.
He attended Wakarusa Valley and South Junior High schools, and graduated from Lawrence High School in 1997 and Kansas University in 2002 with a degree in computer engineering.
Mr. Pope worked as a software engineer at the Federal Home Loan Bank in Topeka, and beginning in 2005, at Lockheed Martin in Gaithersburg, Md.
He participated in baseball and soccer in Lawrence, was active in 4-H, and enjoyed outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, fishing and rock climbing. Throughout his teenage years, he worked at Sunflower Outdoor and Bike Shop.
He married Shannon Doyle on Oct. 1, 2005, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lawrence. She survives, of the home.
Other survivors include his parents, Oskaloosa; his brother and wife Michelle, Liberty, Mo.; a niece, Ashlyn; a nephew, Joshua; and a grandmother, Thelma Pope, Topeka.
