Ira Junior Faust 1926 - 2009 Overbrook
Services for Ira Junior Faust, 83, Overbrook, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Overbrook United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Twin Mound Cemetery.
Mr. Faust died Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009, at Brookside Manor.
He was born Jan. 25, 1926, in the Berryton area, the son of Ira D. Faust and Ethel Irene Turner Faust. He attended Lickskillet, a one-room grade school, and graduated from Overbrook Rural High School in 1943.
He was a full-time farmer/stockman who owned property in Douglas and Osage County. He also represented the Patrons Mutual Insurance Co. as an agent. He assumed the role of the Pioneer Seed Co. sales representative for the Overbrook area after his father’s death.
He was a lifetime member of Twin Mound Grange and the Kansas State Grange, and was a Seventh Degree member of the National Grange. He was a current member of the Kansas Farm Bureau, and served several years on the Twin Mound school board, the Marion Township Board and the Overbrook Co-op board of directors.
He was a player/manager for the Richland men’s softball team. He was an avid hunter, talented pool and snooker player, and the family champion at “pitch” card playing.
He married Dorothy Jean Rice on Aug. 3, 1946, in Topeka. They lived in the Twin Mound community northeast of Overbrook all of their 49 years of marriage. She preceded him in death July 5, 1996.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, Ira D. and Ethel Faust, and his sister, Edna Moore.
Survivors include three sons, Bruce and wife Pamala, and Bernie and wife Linda, all of Overbrook, and Brian, San Jose, Calif.; a daughter, Janet Faust and husband Fred Dimick, of Kechi; his companion of 13 years, Lois M. Gaines, of the home; and three grandchildren, Julie Faust, Jared Faust and Alan Faust.
The family will meet friends from 10 a.m. until the service hour Thursday at the church.
