Fern M. Hanschu-Weber

Funeral services for Fern M. Hanschu-Weber, 89, Herington, will be 11 a.m. today at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Shady Brook, near Herington, with the Rev. John Riebhoff officiating. Burial will follow at the Sunset Hill Cemetery, Herington.
She died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at the Medicalodges of Herington.
She was born July 26, 1920, on the family farm near White City, the daughter of Arnold A. and Hilda Gruber Kickhaefer.
She and her first husband farmed together for 16 years west of Herington, and in 1956 moved to Salina, where they owned and operated Hanschu’s Shoes. She was also a homemaker.
She was active at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, and the American Legion Auxiliary as a past president and past president of the Sixth District of the American Legion, all in Salina.
She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school, Bible school, and was a member of the Ladies Aid.
She married Arthur D. Hanschu on Feb. 15, 1942, near White City. He died May 10, 1984. She married Milton Weber on June 6, 1987, in Salina. He died Feb. 28, 1998.
Survivors include two daughters, Judy Neuschafer, Lindsborg, and Ardy Moses, Lawrence; a stepdaughter, Norma Jean Gravatt, Solomon; two brothers, Harvey and Roy Kickhaefer, both of White City; a sister, Lillie Vahsholtz, Herington; three grandsons; four stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and six stepgreat-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to the Lutheran Hour Ministries, Immanuel Lutheran Church, Trinity Lutheran Church of Salina, or the Hospice of Dickinson County, sent in care of the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home & Crematory, Herington Chapel, 404 S. Broadway, Herington, KS 67449-3038.
