James E. Scaletty

Mass of Christian Burial for James Scaletty, 74, of Kansas City, Mo., will be 11 a.m. Monday at Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Kansas City, Mo.
Mr. Scaletty died Thursday, May 28, 2009, at his home.
He was born Aug. 21, 1934, in Parsons, Kan., the son of Charles and Vivian “Nadine” Scaletty.
He graduated from Parsons High School and St. Benedict’s College. He played on the 1954 St. Benedict’s NAIA national collegiate basketball championship team. He also was the 1955 Ozark amateur golf champion, Parsons city golf champion numerous times and the 1984 Kansas senior mid-amateur golf champion.
Mr. Scaletty was a math teacher and basketball coach at St. Joseph High School in Shawnee, Kan.; a branch manager for Capitol Federal Savings in Overland Park, Kan.; president of the former Peoples Savings and Loan in Parsons; and a reverse mortgage consultant for Wells Fargo.
He married Patricia Kelley. She survives, of the home.
Other survivors include two sons, Steve Scaletty and wife Robyn, Lawrence, Kan., and Mark Scaletty and wife Kathy, Indianapolis; two daughters, Ann Nutter and husband Dave, Lawrence, and Mary Stephan-Stanley and husband Rick Stanley, Lenexa, Kan.; three brothers, The Rev. Thomas, Humboldt, Kan., Joseph, Olathe, Kan., and Paul and wife Patty, Olathe, Kan.; and 12 grandchildren, Angie, Aly, Kate, Jimmy, Erin, Lauren, Lindsay, Matt, Meghan, Luke, Ben and Beth.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son-in-law, Tony Stephan.
Friends may call from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the McGilley Midtown Funeral Chapel, 20 W. Linwood, Kansas City, Mo., where a rosary will be prayed at 3:30 p.m.
The family suggests memorials to St. Benedict’s College in Atchison, Kan., or to Guardian Angels Catholic Church.
The chapel is in charge of arrangements.
