Dorothy J. Speer

Graveside services for Dorothy J. Speer, 91, St. Joseph, will be at 10 a.m. today at Memorial Park Cemetery in St. Joseph.
Mrs. Speer died Tuesday, May 26, 2009.
She was born Oct. 12, 1917, in Hiawatha, Kan., the daughter of John and Mable Winters Nichols. She was baptized and became a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church. She enjoyed garage sales and cooking but especially loved spending time with family.
She married Edward F. Speer. They shared 50 years of marriage. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Speer also was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; two sisters; two sons, Ronald and Jack Speer; and a daughter, Margaret Cole.
Survivors include four daughters, Patricia Still and husband Vern, St. Joseph, Joyce Richardson, Ridgeway, Mo., Bonnie Rose and husband Rick, Lawrence, Kan., and Marilyn Larison and husband George, Amazonia, Mo.; three sons, Leroy Speer and wife Anne, Savannah, Mo., Melvin Speer and wife Jana, Kansas City, Kan., and Rodney Speer and wife Ronda, St. Joseph; 35 grandchildren; 70 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Hamilton, St. Joseph.
