Lynda Kay Perry Powell

Services for Lynda Kay Perry Powell, 51, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel in Topeka. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery southeast of Topeka.
Mrs. Powell died Saturday, May 23, 2009, at her home.
She was born on Jan. 30, 1958, in Lawrence, the daughter of Willard and Barbara Winters Perry. When she was 10 years old, she and her family moved to Topeka. She graduated from Shawnee Heights High School.
She attended Emporia State University and graduated from Kansas University with bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees in behavioral psychology. She received numerous scholarships throughout her school years and was interested in forensics and acting. She also enjoyed family activities with her husband and boys.
Mrs. Powell was a member of the First Christian Church, where she and her husband enjoyed working with youths. She took the youth group to Kentucky to work on homes for Habitat For Humanity.
She married James R. Powell on June 10, 1978, in Topeka. He survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Zachary and Tyler, of Topeka; her mother, Barbara Perry, Topeka; and two brothers, Michael Perry, Topeka, and Mark Perry, Wichita.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
