No services for Florence Irene Brown, 98, Lawrence, are scheduled. Cremation is planned. Burial will be at the Santa Fe Military Cemetery, Santa Fe, N.M.
Mrs. Brown died Thursday, May 14, 2009, at Pioneer Ridge Nursing Facility.
She was born June 30, 1910, near Burlingame, the daughter of Charles and Winifred Guile. She graduated from Miller High School in 1919.
Mrs. Brown attended the College of Emporia. She worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs at Haskell Indian Junior College and later for the Department of Indian Public Health in Albuquerque, N.M., where she lived for 40 years.
Mrs. Brown was the chairwoman for the Methodist Church wedding reception committee for several years. She also volunteered in the Thrift Shop. She was the state representative for Job’s Daughters for the state of New Mexico for several years. She had been a member of the Lew Wallace Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution since 1975.
She married Glenn Brown. He preceded her in death.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Hunte; a grandson, Jess Queen; and a great-grandson, Benjamin Carreon.
Survivors include a sister, Winifred Clayton, Wichita; a daughter, Phyllis Hobbs, Green Valley, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-granddaughters.
The family suggests memorials to the Pioneer Ridge Nursing Facility.
