Mrs. Chavez died Tuesday, May 12, 2009, at her home.
She was born Nov. 26, 1930, in Eaton, Colo., the daughter of Charles and Rama Benavidez.
She married Joseph Chavez. He survives, of the home.
Other survivors include two daughters, Pamela Wold and Sandy Calkins; a stepdaughter, DeAnna Cox; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
