Paid family tribute
Funeral services for James Frederick “Fred” Reed Sr., 84, Baldwin City, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the VanArsdale Funeral Chapel in Osage City. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in Osage City.
Mr. Reed died Sunday, May 10, 2009, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
He was born July 13, 1924, in Williamsburg, the son of Earl and Margarite Meagher Reed. He attended schools at Pomona, Baldwin City, and graduated from Osage City High School in 1942.
Mr. Reed served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He later worked at the Sunflower Ordnance Plant in De Soto for 32 years and was a member of the Baldwin City American Legion.
He married Julia Christean Nelson on Dec. 4, 1977, in Osage City. She died July 25, 2008.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Ernest and Donald.
Survivors include three sons, James Jr. and wife Glenda, Diamond Springs, Calif., David and wife Jayne, Baldwin City, and Ronald and wife Pam, Mildred; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the service time Thursday at the funeral chapel.
