Betty Alice Sharpe Simunac

A memorial service for Betty Alice Sharpe Simunac, 86, Baldwin City, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Baldwin City. Private family inurnment will be at a later date at the Oakwood Cemetery in Baldwin City.
Mrs. Simunac died Monday, May 11, 2009, at her home.
She was born Aug. 27, 1922, in Carbondale, Ill., the daughter of Violet Stout and Fred Sharpe. She graduated from Decatur High School in Carbondale in 1940. She attended Baker University in Baldwin City, and was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority.
Mrs. Simunac returned to Baldwin City in 1966 with her husband following his retirement from the Air Force. She joined and enjoyed many clubs, including Chapter CK of PEO, Tuesday Reading Club, Leisure Hour, United Methodist Women, Alpha Chi Guild and Hestia Club. She was an active participant in water aerobics for many years and a volunteer at the Baldwin City Library.
She married Joseph Simunac in July 1942. They shared more than 66 years of marriage. He survives, of the home.
Other survivors include a son, Joe Simunac III and wife Kristen, of Dover, N.H.; a daughter, Emily Honse and husband Bob, of Lawrence; four grandchildren, Josh, Nick and Kate Sinnard and Clara Simunac; and two great-grandchildren, Alexis and Max Sinnard.
Mrs. Simunac was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Jim Sharpe.
The family will receive friends after the service at the church, beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday.
