Alice Bernice Cox

A celebration of life for Alice Bernice Cox, 96, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Cox died Monday, May 11, 2009, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
She was born June 1, 1912, in Osawatomie, the daughter of James H. and Jennettie Mueller Staley. She attended schools in Osawatomie. She lived in Lawrence for 73 years, many of them at 2133 Mitchell Road.
Mrs. Cox worked in retail sales for many years at Weaver’s Department Store and Roberts Jewelry. She and her husband were members of Lawrence Friends Church.
She married William Arthur Cox on April 13, 1936, in Boise, Idaho. He died Dec. 30, 1964.
Survivors include two daughters, Jennettie L. Talawyma and husband Karl, and Judy L. Leibengood and husband Dana, all of Lawrence; five grandchildren, Bill and Stephen Leibengood, Cindi Mills, David Cobb, and Jennifer Leach; two step-grandchildren, Linda Palij and Larry Leibengood; seven great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home, where the family will receive them from 1 p.m. until service time Friday.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association or The Salvation Army, sent in care of the funeral home.
