Richard C. Wolfe 1952 - 2009 Lawrence
Memorial services for Richard Charles Wolfe, 57, Lawrence, will be at 4 p.m. Friday at Quisenberry Funeral Home, Tonganoxie.
Mr. Wolfe died Monday, May 4, 2009, at his home.
He was born March 26, 1952, in Leavenworth, the son of Glenn and Betty Cheasbro Wolfe.
Mr. Wolfe received a bachelor’s degree in botany from Kansas University in 1978.
He was owner and president of Wolfe’s Landscape & Irrigation Inc., of Lawrence and Topeka, which he founded in 1979 and operated for 30 years.
Mr. Wolfe was active in public policy at the local and state levels. He was instrumental in drafting Senate Bill 611 in 1994 concerning innovations in irrigation systems and regulations. He was a member of the Professional Lawn Care Association of Mid-America, Kansas Turf Grass Foundation, American Landscape Association and Mid-America Green Industry Council. He was listed as an honored professional in the National Register‚ Who’s Who In Executives and Professionals, and was featured in Landscape and Irrigation Magazine for his accomplishments.
He enjoyed antiques, golf and the history of the United States. He was known for his encyclopedic knowledge of the U.S. Civil War. He also loved animals, especially dogs and horses.
He married Judi Bowles on June 3, 1973, in Lawrence. She survives, of the home.
Other survivors include two daughters, Tara Wolfe and partner AJ Stolfus, Olympia, Wash., and Laura Wolfe and husband Jeremy Hess, Lawrence.
