Dave Gaumer 1935 - 2009 Lawrence
A memorial service for Dave Gaumer, 73, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Trinity Episcopal Church in Lawrence.
Mr. Gaumer died Friday, March 27, 2009, of pancreatic cancer.
He was born Aug. 24, 1935, in Oberlin, the son of Wesley and Fern Frickey Gaumer.
Mr. Gaumer was a graduate of Kansas University and Washburn Law School.
He pursued a brief career in general and corporate law in Denver and later joined a law firm in Kingman for seven years. In 1970, Mr. Gaumer accepted a position as director for private sector development for the Agency for International Development in Washington, D.C. He returned to Kingman in 1973, where he practiced law until retiring to Lawrence in 2003.
Mr. Gaumer served on numerous organizations as a board member or volunteer, including the Kanza Bank Board in Kingman for 20 years. He was an alumnus of the International Farm Youth Exchange Program and represented Kansas in India and Nepal in 1956. Recently, Mr. Gaumer was active in the Phi Beta Kappa Honors Society, Kansas Bar Association, Rotary International, Lawrence Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and the JOY coffee club.
He married Mary Rose on June 11, 1960. She survives.
Other survivors include three sons, David and wife Tammy, Allen, Texas, and Dan and wife Sonja and Doug and wife Kathy, all of Lawrence; seven grandchildren, Nicholas, Amanda, Julia, Savanna, Larissa, Alexa and Austin Gaumer; two nieces, Donna Tucker and Shirley Werholtz; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Jean Ann Kump, and a nephew, John Kump.
The family suggests memorials to KU Endowment for pancreatic research at the KU Cancer Center. Checks should be made payable to KU Endowment, with Dave Gaumer memorial in the memo, and mailed to P.O. Box 928, Lawrence, KS 66044-0928.
