Doris Brewster Swift

Inurnment for Doris Brewster Swift, 85, Tulsa, will be at a later date in Owasso.
Mrs. Swift died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009, at her home in Tulsa.
She was born Oct. 29, 1923, in Lawrence, Kan., the daughter of Ray Q. and Fay Brewster. She graduated from Lawrence High School in 1941 and Kansas University in l945 with a major in geology.
Mrs. Swift used the diaries of her mother to write several books about growing up in Lawrence: “Life on Mississippi Street, Volumes I, II, III.” She also spent many years attending the Walnut Valley Acoustic Music Festival in Winfield, Kan., where the Grier, Swift, Fakhoury Campsite is still an important experience for all the extended family. She was a member of the John Calvin Presbyterian Church in Tulsa, and was very active nearly up until her death.
She married Paul Swift in August 1949. They shared 53 years of marriage. He preceded her in death in 2002.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles, and her parents.
Survivors include three children, Dana Swift, Tulsa, D’Loye Swift, Slidell, La., and Robert Swift and wife Ann, Norman; grandchildren Tania and Bartley Mulligan, Marianne and Tara Castellano, and Molly and Kelly Swift; and two sisters, Nita Brewster Grier, Lawrence, and Ina May Fakhoury and husband Don, Kansas City, Mo.
