Leatha Louise Worthington

Tecumseh — A memorial service for Leatha Louise Worthington, 86, of Lecompton, will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Shawnee Heights United Methodist Church in Tecumseh. Private family burial will be at Stull Cemetery.
Mrs. Worthington died Saturday, March 21, 2009, at Midland Hospice House in Topeka.
She was born in 1922, the daughter of Anna Nichols and August Walter of Lawrence.
Mrs. Worthington worked with the Kansas Heart Association for 20 years. She was a leader in youth activities with the local 4-H club and her church, first at Stull United Methodist Church and then Shawnee Heights United Methodist Church. She was also very active in the United Methodist Women’s group, particularly in support of missions.
She married C.A. “Art” Worthington on Aug. 2, 1946, in Stull. He preceded her in death on Dec. 7, 1997.
Survivors include three daughters, Jeanne Worthington, Topeka, Joanne Gofreed and husband Eric, Fort Washington, Md., and Shirley Worthington, Stillwater, Minn.; a son Galen Worthington, Augusta; seven grandchildren, Philip Gofreed, Erin Pipes, Sharon Gofreed, Jake Jones, and Michelle, Mike and Sam Desch; and one great-grandson, Jared Pipes.
Friends may call after noon today at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel in Topeka, where the family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
