Mary Louise Zook 1915 - 2009 Lawrence

Paid family tribute

Memorial services for Mary Louise Zook, 93, Lawrence, will be at 10:30 a.m. March 28 at the Lawrence Wesleyan Church. Inurnment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence.
Mrs. Zook died Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at her home.
She was born Nov. 12, 1915, in Kingston, Mo., the daughter of Albert and Linnie Stone Houghton. She graduated from Kingston High School in 1933. She moved to Kansas City, Mo., to work as a beautician.
Mrs. Zook was also a homemaker. She was a member of the Lawrence Wesleyan Church.
She and her husband moved to Lawrence in 1948 upon Mr. Zook’s acceptance for the position as the manager of the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce.
She married E.R. “Bus” Zook on Sept. 4, 1945, in Quantico, Va. He preceded her in death in 1998.
Mrs. Zook was also preceded in death by a son, William “Bill” Zook; a daughter, Suzanne Zook Ferguson; a grandson, Peter Cochrane; and a son-in-law, Patrick Cochrane.
Survivors include a daughter, Janice L. Cochrane, Lawrence; two sons, Ron D. and Robert D. and wife Amy, all of Lawrence; a sister, Martha Raines, Kingston, Mo.; a brother, Maurice Houghton, Kingston, Mo.; a daughter-in-law, Becky Zook, Boerne, Texas; two granddaughters, Julie Cochrane Krische and Jodie Cochrane; eight grandsons, David, Alex, Timothy J., Garrett, Andrew, Taylor and Sawyer Zook, and Brock Ferguson; and five great-grandchildren.
The family will greet friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. March 27 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
The family suggests memorials to the Douglas County Visiting Nurses Rehabilitation and Hospice Care or to the Lawrence Memorial Hospital Oncology Unit, sent in care of the mortuary.
