Donald Lee Barnes

Funeral services for Donald Lee Barnes, 82, of Ottawa, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home in Ottawa. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.
Mr. Barnes died Sunday, March 15, 2009, at his residence.
He was born May 7, 1926, in Reamsville, the son of Irma Church and Austin R Barnes. He attended Ottawa High School and graduated in 1947, after serving time in the Army during World War II.
Mr. Barnes worked for the city of Ottawa, starting as a meter reader from 1951 to 1956, then as a lineman from 1956 until retiring in 1988.
He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed spending time listening to country music, big band music and reading books about the war. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and his grandchildren.
He married Betty Kristenson on June 27, 1948, in Ottawa. She survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Linda Ferris and husband Jim, Ottawa; a son, Larry and wife Anne, Ottawa; a sister, Nina Snyder, Fresno, Calif.; three grandchildren, Terry Ferris, Mike Ferris and Amy Barnes; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, his mother and two brothers, Robert E. and George I.
The family will meet friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
