Ellis Gonuslin 1915 - 2009 Lawrence
Funeral services for Ellis “Geechie” Gonuslin, 93, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Burial will be at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday in Leavenworth National Cemetery.
Mr. Gonsulin died Friday, March 13, 2009, at the VA Medical Center in Topeka.
Ellis was born June 6, 1915, in New Iberia, La., the son of Alec and Melissa Jones Gonuslin.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, assigned to the 535th Port Company and 516th Port Battalion in France. He was in construction work for many years in this area.
He raised two grandsons, Thomas and Ellis Daniels.
He married Wanda Mae King in December 1952. They were married for 56 years. She survives, of Lawrence.
Other survivors include a daughter, Eva Daniels, Lawrence; a stepdaughter, Connie Shaw, Lawrence; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at the mortuary. The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. until service time on Tuesday at the mortuary.
The family suggests memorials to the American Legion Dorsey-Liberty Post 14, sent in care of the mortuary.
