Dorothy L. Daniels 1918 - 2009 Lawrence
Funeral services for Dorothy L. Daniels, 91, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Central United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Lecompton.
Mrs. Daniels died Friday, March 13, 2009, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
She was born Feb. 11, 1918, in Davenport, Iowa, the daughter of Howard W. and Sarah Morris Sanford. She graduated from Lecompton High School, and later from Emporia State Teachers College.
Mrs. Daniels was a teacher and taught in Lecompton, at Newton High School, Shawnee Mission North High School, and in Lawrence at West Junior High School, retiring in 1980. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church, the Douglas County Retired Teachers’ Association, the Minervian Club, Delta Kappa Gamma, Lecompton Historical Society, and the Knife & Fork Club.
She married Alvin E. Daniels on June 1, 1951, in Lawrence. He survives, of the home.
Other survivors include a brother, Earl Sanford and wife Frances, Lecompton; a sister, Mary Sanford, Lawrence; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. Monday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time Tuesday at the church.
