William Vernie Holden

Graveside service for William Vernie Holden, 69, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Memorial Park Cemetery. A wake will follow at the Slow Ride Roadhouse in North Lawrence.
Mr. Holden died Saturday, March 7, 2009, at his home.
He was born April 13, 1939, in South Mound, the son of Thomas and Ida Stinson Holden.
Mr. Holden worked for the city of Lawrence as a heavy equipment operator for many years, retiring in 1993. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 309 in Lawrence.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary E. Bowman and husband Roger L., McLouth, and Teresa R. Curtiss and husband Aaron, Baldwin City; his ex-wife, Bonnie Lu; two grandsons, Jacob and Brent; his companion, Linda Schwertfeger; and his dog, Trouble.
Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, where the family will receive them from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The family suggests memorials to the William Vernie Holden Memorial Fund, sent in care of the funeral home.
