Elder Murvin Dean 1922 - 2009 Lawrence
Funeral services for Elder Murvin Dean, 86, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Mustard Seed Christian Fellowship. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Elder Dean died Wednesday, March 4, 2009, at his home.
He was born May 13, 1922, in Holler Ridge, La., the son of Anderson and Ethel Sparks Dean.
Elder Dean was the assistant pastor of the Church of God in Christ in Lawrence starting in 1968. He became pastor of his church, The Church of God in Kansas City, Mo., in 1971. He also worked for the Lawrence Water Department for more than 20 years.
He married Rebecca Demby on Sept. 25, 1943, in Nitta Yuma, Miss. She died in 2001.
He also was preceded in death by a son, Andy; and twin daughters.
Survivors include three sons, Murvin Jr., Texarkana, Ark., and James and Herbert, both of Lawrence; six daughters, Ethel Hundley, Lee’s Summit, Mo., Teresia Garrett, Olathe, Myrtis Edwards, St. Louis, Mattie Neely and Janice Trotter, both of Lawrence, and Wanda Austin, Houston; three daughters-in-law; three sons-in-law; a sister, Eunice Griffin, Indianapolis; more than 40 grandchildren; and more than 40 great-grandchildren.
The family will meet friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
The family suggests memorials to The Church of God in Kansas City, Mo., or Douglas County Visiting Nurses, Rehabilitation and Hospice Care, sent in care of the mortuary.
