Marvin R. Edmonds

Funeral services for Marvin R. Edmonds, 81, Topeka, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home in Topeka. Burial will follow in Topeka Cemetery.
Mr. Edmonds died Monday, March 2, 2009, at Midland Hospice House in Topeka.
He was born May 24, 1927, in Topeka, the son of Ray B. and Eunice M. Powell Edmonds. He was a 1945 graduate of Liberty Memorial High School in Lawrence.
Mr. Edmonds enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1945 and was honorably discharged in 1946. He worked for McElroy’s as a refrigeration and heating serviceman for 35 years, retiring on May 31, 1990.
He was a member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local No. 441 for more than 50 years and a longtime member of Crestview United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing, camping and gardening.
He married Hazel L. Deskins on Oct. 6, 1948, in Lawrence. She survives.
Other survivors include two sons, William R. and wife Betty, Topeka, and Bernie, Topeka; three daughters, Brenda Artzer and companion Pierce Logan, Topeka; Beverly Austin and husband Carl, Tecumseh; and Becky Perkins and husband Kevin, Vinland; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Orville and wife Wilma; three sisters, Elizabeth Duncan and husband Ernest, Lois Hamlet and husband Don, and Edna Mae Lolley; two sisters-in-law, Melva Edmonds, Lawrence, and Marian Carr, Wichita; a brother-in-law, Bart Anderson, Lawrence; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Adam Edmonds; a brother, Wilbur “Bill”; and a sister, Doris Anderson.
Friends may call after 3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, where the family will meet friends from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
