Gloria Sterling

Memorial services for Gloria Sterling, 78, Lawrence, will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Lawrence Jewish Community Center.
Mrs. Sterling died Sunday, March 1, 2009, at her home.
She was born July 5, 1930, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of Albert and Mollie Tiger Wolfson.
Mrs. Sterling received her undergraduate degree from Hunter College in New York and her master’s degree from Kansas University. She began her career in the New York City Public Schools in elementary education. In 1969, she moved with her family to Lawrence and began work in the Topeka public schools, where she finished her career as a guidance counselor.
She was a longtime volunteer at Audio Reader and a part of the Lawrence Jewish Community Center for 40 years.
She married Stanley J. Sterling on Dec. 28, 1952, in Brooklyn, N.Y. He preceded her in death June 29, 1997.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Enid Wolfson.
Survivors include two daughters, Judi Gitel, Lawrence, and Abbie Frank and husband Mark, St. Louis; a son, Adam Sterling and wife Veerle Coignez, Falls Church, Va.; and five grandchildren, Rachel and Jason Gitel, Elka and Bram Sterling, and Micah Frank.
A reception will follow the service at the Lawrence Jewish Community Center.
