Charlotte G. Ryan

Memorial services for Charlotte M. Ryan, 90, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Private inurnment will be later at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Ryan died Friday, Feb. 27, 2009, at her home, following a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.
She was born Jan. 5, 1919, in Winslow, Ariz., the daughter of Carl T. and Florence Smith Maib. She grew up in Guymon, Okla., during the Dust Bowl era, and graduated from high school there. She later attended two years of post-secondary education.
Mrs. Ryan worked as administrative director of the North Iowa Area Community Action Program. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and participated in the League of Women Voters. She and her husband had lived in Hutchinson, Parsons, Kansas City, and Mason City, Iowa, before moving to Lawrence in 1999.
She married Edwin Eugene Ryan on Nov. 3, 1938, in Joplin, Mo. He died Nov. 22, 2008.
A daughter, Colleen A. Ryan, also preceded her in death on Feb. 2, 2008.
Survivors include a son, Michael E. Ryan, Mission Hills; a daughter, Rebecca Ryan, Lawrence; and six grandchildren.
The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorials to Douglas County Visiting Nurses, Rehabilitation and Hospice Care, sent in care of the funeral home.
